Among all first responders, Paramedics and EMTs have the highest rates of developing PTSD.

A combination of medical staff shortages, a lack of ambulances, hospital delays, and an overwhelming number of emergencies causes a phenomenon known as Level Zero. These factors can take Paramedics and EMTs away from responding to 911 calls.

About how it feels like to be driving an ambulance while keeping a patient alive on the way to the hospital.

Depending on the information provided, Paramedics and EMTs may respond to calls with very limited knowledge of who their patients are. Medics need to adapt to the variety of personalities they encounter to effectively treat each individual.

Outwardly, Paramedics and EMTs are brave and professional. Though they are trained to perform under high stress, they are regular people who experience emotions such as fear, grief, and anger.
